Fear, the sum of it to change the number of it

We live in fear; its how we survive as a species in many ways. If all of us as babies continuously put our fingers in the electrical socket, then how would we live on to spend our days typing on smartphones?

And often thats what most of us spend our days doing: social media, cat videos, perusing Amazon, etc. Yet most of us want to make a difference in the world, and we spend our days doing exactly not that.

Fearing what one might accomplish, should they get off the couch, is so often tied to its twin fear – the fear of having done nothing with one’s life. For every generation and person, there seems to be something that tried holding them back.

What if those of us who have lived too many years on our smartphones decided to pick a new addiction: making a difference in peoples lives. What if we could find a way, each in our lives, to make positive changes in ourselves and others just as addictive as facebook?

Sounds great right?

For some of us, fear is what has held us back: the fear of the unknown, of the branching out and not knowing what receptions awaits; the fear of change, wanting to not lose the security of the here and now for the now and maybe later; the fear of failure, least not our work be in vain.

But thats not good enough; it won’t do. Living in this fear amounts to giving up on what potential you could be. If you really want what you want, then move the fear aside and step yourself forward.

It might feel like survival to stay in the comfort zone, but it’s not. The hack is not to struggle against the fear, for that will only grow it. Instead, make a choice to move past it; don’t let it affect your life anymore. Just let if float past you and not even touch you.

So the next time that couch and Netflix are beckoning, remember what you decided to do and do at least one solid thing to advance it before you give that couch one more second of you life.

  1. Having our devices gives us a sense of security, If we are too afraid to talk to people or appear to be alone, we can whip them out and be busy. Give ourselves a sense of significance. Make us feel that we are not all alone. We need to push past the fear and actually speak to those near us.
